Prof. Wendy Meulebroeck

Part-time professor in the field of photonics at VUB (h-index 5), teaching a course on Laboratories in Photonics Research and Optical Raytracing. From 2008 onwards she built up experience in supervising MSc. and PhD students of which respectively 8 and 2 students have graduated.

Prof. Heidi Ottevaere

Full professor in the field of photonics at VUB (h-index 17). She built up a strong track record in supervising students (30 MSc. and 6 PhD graduated students) and in teaching: courses such as Optical Measurement Techniques, Microphotonics and Laboratories in Photonics Research. As programme director of the European Master of Science in Photonics at VUB she is also responsible for the Internship in Photonics, an elective course that is largely chosen by the MSc. students.

Prof. Maarten Kuijk

Full professor in the field of opto-electronics at VUB (h-index 20). His current research topics include electrical and optical interconnects devices & building blocks, optoelectronic devices & sensors, CMOS analog and digital circuits. He authored and co-authored more than 100 international refereed publications and over 20 international patents. He is founder of the VUB spin-off “EqcoLogic NV” that defined the physical layer of the international high-end camera interface-standard “CoaXPress”. EqcoLogic was acquired by Microchip Technology in 2013. Co-founded “SoftKinetic Sensors N.V” for Time-Of-Flight CMOS image sensors and cameras, which got acquired by SONY Corporation in 2015.

Dr. Colas Schretter

Completed the M.Sc. degree in computer science with great honors in 2004 and received an additional Master of advanced studies (DEA) in 2006 from the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. Moved to Germany ub 2007 for a scientist position with Philips Research, Aachen. Earned a Marie Curie EST fellowship for his doctoral thesis, awarded with magna cum laude in April 2010, at the Otto-von-Guericke University. Won a Marie Curie ERG grant for a postdoctoral project with the RWTH Aachen University and was visiting researcher at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Was selected for a M+Vision 2012 fellowship at the MIT in Cambridge, USA. Back in Belgium since October 2013, as a iMinds research scientist at the Department of Electronics and Informatics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Authored 30 peer-reviewed papers and 3 patents, mainly in the field of mathematical and statistical methods for biomedical imaging.

Dr. Willem Hoving

PhD degree in experimental physics of the University of Groningen in 1987. Hoving is an expert in the field of optics integration and photonic product development, based on more than 30 years of experience at Philips Electronics (manufacturing technology), XiO Photonic BV (integrated optics) and Avantes BV (optical spectroscopy). He has a long track record of supervising university and high-school students during their practical periods in the industry. During his whole career, he supervised on the average one master student per year. Moreover, he supervised 4 PhD students and led them to a successful thesis and defence at the university.
